Netherlands Antilles - New DXCC entities.

November 30, 2007 · 4 Comments

President of EUDXF Hans, PB2T, visited ARRL HQ in  July. There was a discussion about the DXCC status of Netherlands Antilles.

After December 15th, 2008, it’s  looking likely  four new entities for Curacao, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Bonaire….for future DXCC.

From Wikipedia:

The Netherlands Antilles is to be disbanded on December 15, 2008.[10] The idea of the Netherlands Antilles as a state never enjoyed full support of all islands. Political relations between islands were often strained. After a long struggle, Aruba seceded from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986, to form its own state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The desire for secession has also been strong in Sint Maarten.

On February 12, 2007, an agreement was signed between the Netherlands and every island except Curaçao. This agreement would end the Netherlands Antilles by December 15, 2008

Radio Amateurs of Lebanon Association - Greetings from Santa

November 27, 2007 · No Comments

To children in a Hospital, School or Orphanage

——–

Event Overview:

Radio Amateurs of Lebanon Association (RAL) will be sponsoring a yearly event called “Greetings from Santa” that involves Amateur Radio operators, setting up amateur radio stations allowing children to talk to Santa Claus in the North Pole.

The Radio Amateurs of Lebanon Association (RAL) will give the children the thrill of their lives talking with “Santa” via Amateur radio.

Event Description

As a radio operator, going room-to-room or class-to-class, making contact with “Santa”, talking to children directly from “the North Pole”, during a break in his busy gift-production schedule. It is thrilling to the children, especially “Santa” mentioning personal details, related to the child and stating that he will be coming soon.

Santa in his discussion will reinforce some basic values and remind the children that they should share their toys and continue to be good. Children details will be collected in advance from parents or school-teacher, on each child’s habits, behaviour and Christmas wish - with parents ready to offer a small Christmas gift to “Santa”, in order to hand it over through the Santa-dressed Amateur Radio operator to the child by Christmas time.

Typical Contact

A typical contact between a child in the chosen location and “Santa” goes something like this:

OD5….calling the “North Pole Station”, this is OD5… at children’s department in hospital or school…X…. “Santa”, we’re in room 205 by bed 2. Do you know the little boy/girl here?”

Santa: “Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas to Children’s Hospital and a special hello to you(name of the child is mentioned here)…How is your new puppy (mention name) and your new little sister (mention name)?

The impact of such contact on the children is priceless….

Requirements

Amateur Radio operators volunteer and their time and their radios for a fixed HF of VHF station at a hospital or school with volunteers QRV on HF or VHF as “Santa North Pole Station”

“Santa-dress” for each participant visiting the children at time of gifts distribution if applicable.

Action
