SAINT BARTHELEMY ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS

Members of the KH8SI group are happy to announce their upcoming activity from the newest DXCC entity, Saint Barthelemy island.

—————–
With the help and support of FJ5DX, FJ5AB and FJ5KH, both Yuichi JR2KDN and Paul F6EXV will sign FJ/F6EXV (callsign used for SSB and CW) and FJ/JR2KDN (callsign used for RTTY), from January 6th till January 20th.
Activity will be on 160-10m, with beam antennas from Cushcraft, vertical and dipole antennas, Yaesu FT2000 and FT857 plus 500W amplifiers.
QSL via respective home calls, OK on qrz.com

————-
Please note the following :
1/ F6EXV will do CW, but is not primarily a CW op. He will do his best, be patient with him.
2/ Several hams have been involved in the preparations. The list would be too long, but let them be thanked already for their help.
3/ A web page will be available for log checking, though access to internet will not be possible from the operating location. Do not use the clusters to ask us to QSY places, it would be a waste of time…Logs will probably be uploaded every 2 or 3 days, depending on internet access. Details to be given soon, as page is being constructed now.
4/ More details will come soon

73 and see you from there

Further to the initial  J5C post, Bill N2WB informs DX World that the team is “all set and ready to GO!!”

—————————

The TEAM is in the Final plans of preparation.

Guinea Bissau DXpedition, J5C

The F6KOP Team is planning a DXpedition to Guinea Bissau on Bubaque Island (AF-020 and WLOTA 1145) between January 11-21st (2008). Their callsign will be J5C.

This is the same group that was active as XT2C from Burkina Faso. They hope to be able to use all their skills and experiences gained from the past XT2C operation as well as being active on as many bands as possible simultaneously.

Several weeks ago, the TEAM added Jean-Marc, F8IXZ to round up the team of FB operators.

More details about this operation is available on the J5C Web site at: http://www.j5c.eu/

ZD7X - QRT, April 2008

December 24, 2007 · 2 Comments

Info from QRZ.com:

Hello all,

I will be departing St. Helena island in April 2008. This will prematurely bring to a close my eight month ZD7X operation. Thanks to the Radio Amateurs in over 225 countries with whom I have established on-the-air friendships with.

The reason that I moved to ZD7 land was my dream of constructing a Big Gun contesting/DXing station here on St. Helena island. Unfortunately, I must now abondon this project. I WILL start again in 2008 from another desirable DX location.

Busy, busy, busy..

December 19, 2007 · 2 Comments

Pheww! What a busy last few days.

Many apologies for lack of updates on this site of late. Some of you will realise i’m concentrating most of my efforts on the 3Y0E website at the moment. Quite a bit to do, so this place has taken a back seat for a few days now.

I guess over the Xmas period when i’ll have more time on my hands, this site will be back in business again.

3Y/ZS6GCM (Bouvet Island) - Press Release

December 18, 2007 · No Comments

Many thanks to ZS6DXB via SARL website:

18 December 2007
Media release from official media officer and pilot station:

Newly licensed operator Petrus, ZS6GCM is currently on Bouvet Island, for the following estimated dates: 13 December 2007 until 14 February 2008. He is part of a five man Norwegian led research team. Petrus is the medical officer of the team and will also be involved with the research.
The Icom IC-735 and Hustler 4-BTV vertical antenna was made available by the NCDXF, OKDXA & Bernie, ZS4TX.
Being newly licensed, Petrus ZS6GCM has limited HF experience. A brief training session and operating procedures were giving to Petrus in Cape Town by Rhynhardt Louw “Rhy”, ZS6DXB, a couple of days prior to departure. Video footage and audio recordings of past DXpeditions were used to ensure that Petrus had an understanding of what he was letting himself into. Petrus displayed full understanding of the job at hand and I am more than certain the he will make a pretty good job from working pileups, Rhy said.
Rhynhardt Louw “Rhy” ZS6DXB has also been appointed as the station pilot and media officer should you require any information please feel free to contact Rhy ZS6DXB.
Application for a dedicated 3Y call is underway and will be made public as soon as the call has been approved. Landing permission was granted months ago as it is a Norwegian research party that so happened to have a South African in their company.
Petrus will have limited time to operate as a result of the work load and availability of electrical power.

Future information to be made public:
1. Official 3Y call
2. Website address
3. Preview of QSL card for this expedition

Antartica on 80m. ZS7ANT or ZS6WLC/ZS7 or ZS7BYRD.

December 18, 2007 · No Comments

*new info here

The following info is from ZS6HA via the SARL website:

On Thursday the 13th of December I was called on 20M by Ludwich ZS6WLC/MM on board of the SA AUGULAS. He mentioned that he was on his way to Antartica and would return to South Africa in Feb 2008.
Ludwich said that he had an AM set (Collins?) with him and wanted to work 80 M Dx with it as he believed that this had not yet been done from Antartica.
So look out for ZS7ANT or ZS6WLC/ZS7 on 3.795Mhz AM
